bow down.

these past three weeks we have been doing a series at church called american idols. i love when we do things this. in your face. make you uncomfortable kind of sermons. but with this one. this one made me squirm even more. i thought i was doing good. i didn’t think i really had a problem with idols. and then it hit me. idols don’t have to be bad things. when one thinks of an idol they would assume it be something or someone detrimental to your being. alcohol, drugs, sex, media are the big ones that come to mind. but what about the idols we don’t talk about?

our kids- when all we are talk about is them. we are looking for ways to make them happy. our days are consumed planning, scheduling, running all over for our children.we brag. we can’t have a conversation where they are not a part of.

our spouse- our feelings are consumed with how they feel about us. we have no value of ourselves unless they approve of us. we spend all of our time consumed with the thought of them. until we don’t know who we are without them.

sport teams- all of the extra money and the money we don’t have goes to buy tickets. memorabilia. we rearrange our schedules so we can watch the game instead of helping someone else.

our job- we feel that we are not enough until we gets our bosses approval. we work to get ahead. to get more. to be more.

our time- we need it. we want to be alone.we are angry when others take it away. we can’t possibly help anyone because our time is more important than their need.

our bodies- if we work out everyday for at least an hour we will be okay. if we fit into these jeans then we will be okay. if others notice we are loosing weight then it will be good enough.

our homes- how dare others come by unannounced. if the house is clean enough then others will think we have it all together. if we have the best furniture and then they will like us.

when is it all enough? now. now is enough. He is enough. He the Father. He the Savior is enough. He is our God . He is our enough.

bow down. bow down to the One who made you. not the things that make you.

Thanks for posting. It's an encouragement to me to not be resentful of the things that God brings to my journey...
